ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This coin appeared in an auction in Switzerland nearly thirty years ago, though the date and circumstances of the its discovery are not known. While the location of Anchialus, the mint at which this coin was struck, falls within the borders of present-day Bulgaria, the city was one of the principal urban centers of the Roman province of Thrace, and the circulation of its coinage would have extended into present-day Greece and Turkey; thus its findspot cannot be placed within the boundaries of a single modern country.
